Art and Jeanne provided a very generous donation
in loving memory of Happy.
This is their story:
"Happy was the most gentle, sweet-tempered creature we have ever known.
A stunning looking pet with an unforgettable personality. He lived with
us for almost 21 years. You simply cannot ever replace a loss of that magnitude.
It is literally like losing your best-behaved child. The pictures above
were taken after Happy's near-fatal stroke at age 18. He had weighed 22
pounds at one point, he weighed 8 1/2 pounds in the pictures above.
My wife deserves a medal for the astounding time and effort she put into
giving Happy de facto hospice care for the last year and a half or so. I
gave him a lot of care and affection, but my wife's efforts were heroic.
Until the day he died Happy was comfortable and content, although just a
shell of his former self. But his affectionate, lovable personality never
changed one bit, no matter how he deteriorated physically.
Writing about Happy is just about impossible. Jeanne and I are still numb
with grief and unable to talk about him, so much do we miss him. We have
instants where we still think we see him in his old, familiar spots in the
house. 20+ years leave an imprint that just never leaves you.
The events that happened soon after his death have me still astonished at
the near-miracle he was."
